Things hadn’t been right at Purdue Flight Service all fall. Now it was winter, and Talkeetna was frozen in solid. It wasn’t helping anyone’s temper. Seemed like most people were drinking at the local bars, and when they weren’t drinking, they were fighting. Fighting drunks was one of Captain Paul Kitka’s least favorite aspects of being in the Alaska state troopers.
But things were worse at Purdue Flight Service. Dace had been tense, but she wasn’t talking about it. Paul respected her commitment to confidentiality, but he was worried. Something was wrong, and he wished she would confide in him about it.
